Barnum’s big, shaggy head stares into the camera, as Sharon’s fingers recede from the lens. She drives her powerchair to an area next to a couch on her right, a coffee table and large wire dog kennel behind her. In her left hand is a target stick — a black, plastic stick about a foot long, with a bring yellow ball, about he size of a lime, on the end of the stick.

>> SHARON: Alright.

Sharon holds the stick out to her left, nose height for the dog.

>> SHARON: Touch!

Barnum quickly touches the yellow ball with his nose. At the moment he does, Sharon clicks her clicker. She grabs a treat from a white tray on the couch to her right and  tosses it on the floor. She repeats the motion of the target stick.

>> SHARON: Touch!

[Click!]

Treat toss.

This time she holds it to her right and above his nose, so he has to reach for it. However, he is looking at something or someone that has moved and made a sound off camera.

>> SHARON: Barnum…

He turns to face her.

>> SHARON: Touch!

[Click!]

Treat toss.

She moves the stick back to the left, but lower, so the tip is about at her upper ankle.

>> SHARON: Touch!

[Click!]

Treat toss.

Sharon puts the target stick down on the couch and reaches for a new one. This one is a metal, telescoping stick, with a red bulb on the end that resembles a clown’s nose. She extends it to near its full length, between one-and-a-half and two feet. She holds it to her left, the bulb off the screen, but the dog apparently targeting it with ease.

>> SHARON: Touch!

[Click!]

Treat toss.

She collapses the stick to one-third its length and holds it straight up in front of her,  her hand resting on her knee.

>> SHARON: Touch!

Barnum has to stretch and nose it a couple of times in rapid succession before Sharon gets just the touch she wants and clicks.

[Click!]

Treat toss.

She extends it all the way out and holds it out to her left again. Barnum faces away and scratches his armpit. Sharon waits.

>> SHARON: Touch!

The bulb is off camera, so we can’t see Barnum’s touch.

[Click!]

>> SHARON: That was a little sloppy. Let’s try that again.

Barnum is once again distracted by action off camera and looks, wandering in that direction.

>> SHARON: Here we go!… Touch!

[Click!]

Sharon looks pleased with that touch as she tosses his treat. She reaches over to put the red stick on the couch and grabs an all-metal, tan stick instead, with joints visible where its been folded. One section is bent, and it looks somewhat battered. It has no obvious tip, just a thin strip of gray duct tape around the end. Sharon holds it out to her left and in front of her.

>> SHARON: Touch!

[Click!]

>> SHARON: Good!

Treat toss.

She leaves the stick in the same place. Barnum is looking towards the sound of running water and clattering dishes.

>> SHARON: One more time. Barnum!

Hearing his name, Barnum turns and looks at Sharon. He sees the stick and heads for it.

>> SHARON: Touch!

[Click!]

>> SHARON: [With enthusiasm, elongating both words] Good dog!

She tosses a few treats this time. While Barnum is picking them up off the floor, Sharon scoots behind him, giving his rump a quick scratch as she goes by.

>> SHARON: Alright.

She moves forward and turns off the camera.
