Barnum stands between the bed and the wall, near an empty powerchair.
SHARON: Barnum.
Barnum looks at Sharon with his ears perked
SHARON: Where’s Gloria?
Barnum trots forward. He grabs a length of thick purple nylon webbing, knotted at the bottom, that is hanging from the door handle. He backs up, pulling the handle down. When the latch gives, the door begins to open, and Barnum lets go. He trots out the door. The door swings open to reveal and empty hallway.
About seven seconds later a faint, distant voice says, “Good dog,” and then, “Where’s Sharon?”
Barnum runs in and hears a click. A treat is thrown onto the floor in front of him. He eats the treat.
SHARON: Good boy!
Barnum looks up at Sharon.
SHARON: Barnum, shut the door!
Barnum runs behind the chair and squeezes between the door and the wall. He nudges the door shut with his nose as he trots forward.
SHARON: Yes!
She tosses a treat on the floor for him.
